Jason has followed his passion for dance since he first discovered the magic and joy of music and movement. Born in Sydney Australia, his Greek family loved to play and dance to old records from the 40’s and 50’s. Jason took his first dance lessons at the age of 12 and quickly moved into competition dancing. After winning many major national Championship titles in Ballroom and Latin dance styles, he moved to England, with his partner Tonia Kosovich to study and train with the worlds best teachers and dancers.
From the time he started living and competing in Europe, Jason proudly represented Greece in all major dance championships around the world. He remains to this day, the most successful dancer to have carried the Greek National flag (1st place at the United Kingdom Open Professional Rising Star Latin Championships, 2nd place at the British Open Professional Rising Star Latin Championships, top 10 world ranking at all major Open Professional Championships).
Since retiring from competitions, Jason has been involved with multiple projects in Theatre (lead dancer of the Original hit show “Burn The Floor”) and TV (Judge & Choreographer “So You Think You Can Dance”, “Eurovision Dance Contest” for Greece, Judge “Dancing with the Stars”). He has lectured and taught all over the world for almost 25 years. And has mentored and trained , many national and international champions. Recently, he has been focusing on the educational development of dance. He is an Associate Professor of Dance at the world famous “Beijing Dance Academy" at the University of Performing Arts, Beijing, China.
After travelling for much of his life, his focus is now on developing the Dance potential in Greece. The greatest reward of a blessed career is the gift of sharing this knowledge and passion with others. This next chapter of a life dedicated to Dance is an exciting new adventure. No student is too young, or old. No dancer, too good or not good enough. From the very youngest, to the young at heart, from beginners to professionals. All students, who with an open heart and open mind, wish to learn and develop, are welcome at The Dance Academy JR.
